Overview
Client: Joyboy Films
Industry: Film/Production Company
Project Duration: November 2023 - December 2023 (6 weeks)
Services Provided: Logo Design, Branding
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator
Background:
Joyboy Films is a newly established film company, and its founder approached me after seeing some of my previous work online. They had a clear vision for their logo, rooted in a nostalgic image from their childhood in Africa: a young boy running with a bicycle wheel. The challenge was to create a logo that stayed true to this sentimental idea while also representing the film industry.
Project Objectives:
• Design a logo that visually aligns with the client’s initial concept and sketch.
• Incorporate elements that connect the logo to both the client’s personal memories and the film industry.

Research and Discovery
Initial Consultation:
The client provided reference images and a sketch of their concept during our first meeting. They envisioned a logo featuring a boy running with a bicycle wheel, symbolizing a cherished memory from their youth in Africa. From the moment I saw the sketch, I knew I could creatively tie this personal symbol to the film industry by substituting the bicycle wheel with a film reel.

Design Process
Concept Development:
I began by brainstorming how to blend the client’s personal vision with a cinematic element. My initial idea was to replace the bicycle wheel with a film reel, which would not only maintain the connection to the client’s childhood but also anchor the logo firmly within the film industry. I drafted several initial concepts to explore this idea.
Design Iterations:
Early on, I aimed to introduce a 3D effect with the film reel, but getting it to work in Adobe Illustrator proved challenging at first. We experimented with different variations, including substituting the wheel's inner structure with that of a camera lens, which further linked the design to film.
As I refined the concepts, I learned how to create the desired depth, making the reel appear as if it were on the ground, unspooling behind the running boy. This allowed the boy to be depicted running on the film reel, adding both dynamism and symbolism to the logo.
Final Design:
The final logo encapsulated everything the client had envisioned and more. The sunset palette, chosen at the client's request, evoked the African landscape and added warmth to the design.
For the typography, I selected two fonts: a playful, thicker font for "Joyboy" and a minimal, thin sans-serif font for "Films," creating a balanced and professional look. The completed logo not only fulfilled the client’s original vision but also incorporated the cinematic touch I aimed to achieve from the start.
Implementation
Applications:
The finalized logo was designed for versatile application across various mediums, including business cards, websites, merchandise, and promotional materials.
Brand Guidelines:
Clear guidelines were established to ensure consistent use of the logo across all platforms.

Conclusion
This project was a unique blend of personal nostalgia and professional design. By working closely with the client and iterating on their initial idea, I was able to create a logo that resonated with their memories while positioning Joyboy Films as a distinct and recognizable brand in the film industry. The final design not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, making it a rewarding experience for both of us.
